How to Set Up a Family Safe Word for Scam Prevention
Share
Scams that imitate a loved one's voice run on panic. A family safe word takes the panic away by giving you a simple way to confirm who you're really talking to. Pick a private phrase your family knows. Something random works best, like a color plus an object ("blue lantern"). Don't post it online or use it as a password, and share it in person. Then agree on one rule: in any urgent call that asks for money or help, you ask for the safe word, hang up, and call back on a saved number. Real family won't mind, and a scammer can't pass. Set it up over a meal this week.
